Your Cal Alumni Pride Board UC Berkeley Professor Emeritus Oliver Williamson wins Nobel PrizeOne more member of the UC Berkeley faculty has joined the ranks of the 20 Nobel Laureates from Cal before him, earning him the most coveted prize of all; a lifetime parking spot on the Berkeley campus. Last week at 3:30am, Professor Williamson received the call from Sweden that his groundbreaking work on economic governance had won him the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. Just a week earlier, Carol Greider, an alumna, and Elizabeth Blackburn, a former Cal Professor, were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. To learn more about Professor Williamson and his work, follow this link. NFL linebacker, Cal alumnus supports marriage equalityHis teammates call him a "Pinko Communist Fag from Berkeley." Scott Fujita, the New Orleans Saints linebacker who has two degrees from Cal doesn't care. He recently endorsed the National Equality March and praised a fellow NFL player for publicly supporting marraige equality. To read the interview with Fujita, follow this link. New York Times op-ed columnist speaks up for Cal Bob Herbert, after visiting campus and meeting with students, faculty and staff, contributed a New York Times op-ed entitled "Cracks in the Future" where he declared that UC Berkeley, "the finest public university in the world and undoubtedly one of the two or three best universities in the United States, public or private...is being jeopardized by shortsighted politicians." Ivy League + Cal and Stanford LGBT alumni mixerJoin fellow LGBT alumni from the Ivy League and Bay Area schools on October 21st at 6:30pm at Sloane, a new lounge/bar at Mission and 11th that opened just a few weeks ago. UC Berkeley Police Officers break Garrido case, appear on OprahAlly Jacobs and Lisa Campbell, the two UC Berkeley Police Officers whose vigilance led to the arrest of suspected kidnapper Phillip Garrido, were recently on the Oprah Winfrey Show to tell their story.
