Dear Cal Alumni Pride Member,
An NFL linebacker who supports gay marriage, a former Brigadier General who has worked to repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell, and a constitutional law expert whose challenging Prop 8 in Federal Court and penned an op-ed that ran in Newsweek; these inspiring alumni and more in this month's newsletter. A special thanks to those who came out for the Haiti Relief Fundraiser at Infusion Lounge. Nearly $7,000 was raised with all proceeds benefiting Doctors Without Borders and the Rainbow World Fund.

LGBT Student Experience Presentation to the UC Regents
Richie Nguyen, our 2009 LGBT Scholarship recipient, participated in a presentation on the LGBT experience at the University of California at the recent UC Regents meeting.

Scott Fujita Speaks Out For Marriage Equality
Alumnus Scott Fujita ‘02, a linebacker for the New Orleans Saints, was featured in a recent New York Times story in which he advocates for marriage equality. He is one of two NFL players who publicly endorsed the Equality March in DC.

Progress on Don’t Ask Don’t Tell
You may remember reading about Brigadier General Keith H. Kerr, a gay Cal alum with 43 years of service in the military. We featured Kerr on our site a few years ago for pressing Republican Presidential candidates on the discriminatory DADT policy. Kerr has served on the Service Members Legal Defense Network’s Military Advisory Council to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. President Obama recently called for an end to the policy in the State of the Union address.

Save the Date - 142nd Charter Gala
The honor of your presence is requested at the Cal Alumni Pride table for an evening of celebration, fine dining, music, and dancing marking the 142nd anniversary of the University of California. The Cal Alumni Association named Cal Alumni Pride the 2010 Alumni Group of the Year. CAA will also honor the 2010 Alumnus of the Year Richard N. Goldman '41, philanthropist and co-founder of the Goldman Environmental Prize and the Goldman Fund. Former Cal Alumni Pride (UCGALA) President and current UC Regent Darek DeDFreece '93 will be honored with the 2010 Excellence in Service Award, at the 2010 Charter Gala. This will be an evening not to be missed!
The 2010 Charter Gala will be held on April 24 in the historic San Francisco Ferry Building. Please save the date for this great and inspiring annual event.
