Scholarship History
One of Cal Alumni Pride’s major objectives is to serve as a resource to LGBT undergraduate students in the form of mentorship and scholarships. Each year, scholarships are awarded to four entering or continuing undergraduate students based on academic acheivement and leadership criteria. The scholarships recognize students who have demonstrated leadership and community involvement who are LGBT or supportive of LGBT issues. All undergrads, regardless of gender identity or orientation, are encouraged to apply if they meet the eligibility requirements.
History of the Scholarship Program
The first scholarship was awarded in 1991 and by 2000 the club had raised the funds to provide three scholarships annually. In 2006, as a result of the generosity of his friends and co-workers, a fourth scholarship was added to honor the life of Eric Higashiguchi ‘99/Boalt ‘03, a scholarship winner in 1994.
Generous annual contributions from our members make these scholarships possible. Contributions to the Cal Alumni Pride scholarship fund are fully tax-deductible. Please consider including the scholarship fund in your estate planning.
